While you can get along just fine with your journal or planner and a nice sharp pencil, there are a few tools we think make the process more fun and arguably, more useful.
Writing utensils for journaling: Erasable is ideal because you will make mistakes and change your plans. Color pens or pencils can help you color-code chores plant types and more. Using highlighters will help you quickly spot important information on a page.

Photo Sticker Printers are handy for adding color images of wild plants that you identify, diseases and pests that you deal with, or your flowers in bloom to your journals. They are a great way to visually document things that you want to remember for future reference, especially if you're not an artist. Once a photo is physically in your journal, you don't have to worry about accidentally deleting it or losing it if your hard drive crashes or your files are hacked.
Page Markers to divide sections in your journal or to make temporary notes. These make it easier to mark sections and turn quickly to the section you want to write in or reference.
Washi tape and stickers to dress up your journal. But also, to note weather or design flower beds, raised beds and crop rows.

Other handy tools include a ruler for drawing straight lines for garden bed layouts, and a flower press for saving specimens of wild forage plants or your favorite flowers.
Glue Stick if you prefer to print your photos and glue them into your journal rather than print them as stickers.

Of course, outside of a journal, and a good pen or pencil, you don't strictly need any of these other items. But they are fun to use.
